Eric Bibb Embarks on US Tour Kicks Off January Dates with Robert Cray

Acoustic singer/songwriter/guitarist Eric Bibb will begin a 20-city U. S. tour January 10, 2002, kicking off in St. Petersburg, Florida as supporting act for blues and soul artist Robert Cray. Bibb will join Cray on nine dates in January, then continue on his own tour to eleven additional cities, culminating in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 10. (Tour Dates)

Having just completed a European tour of largely sold-out performances, Bibb has been enjoying continued popularity around the world. His latest release, Painting Signs (May 2001, UK: August 2001, U.S.), has recently made the BBC Radio 2 playlist, while his performances and the album continue to receive steady praise from reviewers.

Here in the U. S., Painting Signs was in the Top 5 most added on Gavin’s AAA Non-commercial charts the first week of its release, climbing to #26 that same month. Likewise, Album Network’s Totally adult charts had it at #27 just two weeks after release while it debut on CMJ at #35, climbing to #15. The album held a position on all charts through October and is still charting in the Top 20 on Living Blues.

Bibb released the Red Cross benefit single Hope in a Hopeless World in October, which featured a revised version of the title track (originally included on Painting Signs). Also included on the single was "For You" (from last year’s Home To Me album). "For You" aired recently on the successful CBS television network program "The District" (Dec. 1,
episode #209).

The support tour with Robert Cray is the second such outing for Bibb. He joined Cray for several dates in September earlier this year. Bibb’s music has proven to be an excellent addition to the Cray performances, noted by Cray’s announcement from stage on the last date together that he has now become Eric's new No.1 fan. Bibb will be accompanied by bassist (and producer of Bibb’s last three CD’s) Dave Bronze, known for his work with Eric Clapton, Robin Trower, Procol Harum, Paul Carrack and many others.

Following this January/February U. S. tour, Bibb will travel to Australia to tour in March, playing the prestigious Port Fairy and Byron Bay Festivals and April will find him touring in Germany.

Also exciting is Bibb’s appearance on Jools Holland’s new European release, Small World Big Band, which went SILVER its first week out (November 19th) and entered the UK Top 40 Album chart at #18 (November 25th). The album features Jools performing duets with some of the biggest names in the music world, including Eric Clapton, Sting, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, Dr. John, Van Morrison, Steve Miller and our own, Eric Bibb, who performs a duet with Jools titled All That You Are. The song was written by Bibb and Holland. The album will be released in the U.S. sometime next year.
